CONFIDENTIALITY – Safeguarding Children.doc
Aims and Objectives
We aim to provide a safe, challenging, inclusive and happy environment, where each child is encouraged and motivated to reach their potential.
We strive to provide a challenging environment, where children can take appropriate risks in safety. We want the children to have an eagerness to learn and to question the world around them. We provide activities that allow them to learn from first hand experience.
We want all children and their carers to feel welcome at Hedgehogs. We promote positive attitudes which embrace the diverse needs of all the children, respecting their differences and making everyone feel valued and included.
We believe that children are naturally eager to learn and that they do their best when they are happy and motivated. It is our desire that when children leave us, they do so with a sense of anticipation and a firm foundation of the key skills necessary for life and the next stage of their education.
Term Dates
Children are welcome from the age of 2 years up to school age.
We accept FE Funding for 2, 3 & 4 year olds along with the 30 hours extended funding.
We are open everyday form 09.00 to 12.00, 12.00 to 15.00 or 09.00 to 15.00
Children are also welcome to attend a lunch session from 12.00 to 13.00 when they can bring a packed lunch in.
Our Curriculum
We follow the revised Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS) as required by Ofsted from September 2012. The following principles are taken from this document and underpin our delivery of EYFS at Hedgehogs.
A Unique Child
Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
Positive Relationships
Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents/carers and/or keyperson.
Enabling Environment
The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and learning.
Characteristics of Effective Learning
We believe that the way in which a child engages with their environment and other people is vital to their learning and development. We plan to embrace and encourage the Characteristics of Effective Learning which are:
Playing and exploring
Active learning
Creating and thinking critically
The curriculum is divided into 7 areas of Learning Development.
PRIME Areas
These are the fundamental areas that we focus on until a child reaches their third birthday ( this is flexible depending on the needs of the child ). These are Personal Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language, Physical Development.
SPECIFIC Areas
These include the essential skills that enrich children's knowledge in society. We include these areas from the age of three (this is flexible depending on the needs of the child). These areas are Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.
